Discover the future of Home Cleaning!
Robot vacuum cleaners are autonomous devices designed to clean floors with minimal human intervention. Equipped with sensors, brushes, and intelligent programming, they navigate your home, avoiding obstacles and ensuring every nook and cranny is dust-free.
The journey of robot vacuum cleaners from a cool idea to something we use every day is really fascinating. They’ve been around for a while. According to Wikipedia, the first one came out in 1996 by Electrolux, a Swedish company. In the U.S., there was definitely interest in developing vacuum robots. Companies like iRobot were leading the way, making robots for all sorts of things like space exploration (with Genghis in 1991), mining, and even search and rescue at the World Trade Center after the September 11 terrorist attacks. Then, in 2002, they launched the Roomba, the robot vacuum cleaner we know today.
The Robot Vacuum Cleaner
So, what do you expect from a robot vacuum? Surprise! They vacuum! But how do they do it, and how much effort and interaction do they need to be set up and function? You know the answer—it depends. Let’s talk about the most advanced robots that incorporate many features, most notably AI (Artificial Intelligence). You’ll be surprised to find out that there are quite a few out there at relatively affordable prices, and they are of the “set it and forget it” type.
What do I mean by that? Pretty much, you just take them out of the box, plug them in, and they will learn about their surroundings. The vacuum will make a map of your house and a plan on how to clean it, including vacuuming the carpets and hardwood floors, and mopping the floors suitable for that type of cleaning. It will know when it needs a recharge and how to get back to the charging station. It will empty itself of the dust collected while vacuuming and of the dirty water after mopping. Most of these advanced robots only require you to clean the dustbin and dirty water bin once a week.
You can tell the robot when your quiet hours are so it will not do any vacuuming during that time. It will adapt to the environment and any changes in the environment. For example, it will be able to detect when objects are in the way and avoid them, even if they were not present when the robot initially mapped your home. It can differentiate between different types of floors and floor coverings, adapting its functional parameters like suction level, speed, and brush height.
You cannot perceive how much value a robot vacuum brings into your life until you get one. Think about the time you save, and besides, you can start it any time you like with the press of a button. Only when you get one will you realize how much value it adds to your life.
Think of it. You have areas in your home that may get more traffic than others. For example, in my house, to go from the kitchen to the living room, I pass by the dining room and a foyer. Normally, that gets vacuumed with the other rooms when the scheduled time comes. Inevitably, we bring little crumbs from the kitchen along this path, especially when we cook. It is pretty easy for many robots to be scheduled or even manually commanded to clean specific areas. By doing so, I can clearly see the difference in the cleanliness of my house after vacuuming selectively and as needed. And this happens effortlessly while you are maybe watching TV or doing other activities that you like.

There are several companies out there producing these robots. The most popular are Roomba, Neato, and Eufy, but new companies like Wyze are also entering this product space.
If you think you want to start using one with lots of features but almost at half the price, you can try one of the robot vacuums refurbished by eBay Refurbished Products, which provides a one to two-year warranty, and the products go through a professional multi-point inspection process.
